The Valley of Vision: A Collection of Puritan Prayers & Devotions

I don’t know how many times I’ve opened The Valley of Vision and found exactly the words I didn’t know I needed. Whether I was preparing to lead worship, struggling to pray, or just feeling spiritually dry, these old prayers have a way of lifting my eyes back to Christ.

This isn’t a book you read cover to cover. It’s one you return to—again and again. A sentence here, a paragraph there—and suddenly, your heart is softened and your mind is reoriented around the greatness of God and the beauty of the gospel.

The Valley of Vision is a collection of Puritan prayers, written in rich, poetic language that’s deeply rooted in Scripture and shaped by a high view of God’s holiness and mercy. And while the language is older, the truths are timeless. The prayers don’t just express emotion—they shape it. They teach us how to worship with reverence, humility, and gospel hope.

As a worship leader, I’ve used this book to:

    • Find language for opening prayers in a worship service
    • Reflect and prepare my heart before rehearsal or Sunday morning
    • Spark personal devotion when words felt hard to come by
    • Share with others who need encouragement or guidance in prayer

It’s language like this that recalibrates your soul and centers your ministry on Christ.

If you’re in worship ministry and you haven’t spent time with The Valley of Vision, don’t let the leather-bound look intimidate you. This is a well of wisdom and worship that you’ll draw from for years.

At Chief Musician Alliance, we long to see music leaders shaped not just by new songs, but by deep prayers. This book is a trusted companion on that path.
